Counseling is provided for individuals, couples, and families, including Trauma-specific issues. Here at Kindred Spirit Counseling, we have found that the Bible gives the foundational stability and the guidelines for life. Not only does Scripture give the framework, but it also gives the best framework. It gives insight into human behavior, as well as putting everything related into proper perspective. It tells a man who he is, where he came from, his purpose, and even his very nature. By coupling this tremendous foundation with sound scientific facts, the Christian Counselor has a superb vantage point from which to help individuals resolve their problems.
The inspired word of God has promised guidance: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you." (Psalm 32:8 NASB) What is God’s special plan for you? Can we assist you in probing that question?

Critical Incident Stress: Defusing and Debriefings
Defusing: Small homogeneous groups, which meet within hours of the conclusion of the event. A defusing is aimed at the core group that was most seriously affected by the event, i.e.., a SWAT team, a platoon, or an ambulance crew. Defusing may be provided by teams of CISM trained peers, Chaplains, and mental health professionals, depending on the circumstances of the event. The defusing is an opportunity to observe any signs of stress and make some decisions as to whether or not a debriefing is required.
Debriefings: A structured, seven-phase process that allows participants to discuss a traumatic incident in a controlled manner, which does not leave them feeling out of control of themselves. It is peer managed and peer driven. A mental health professional is present for oversight and guidance. Debriefings are not counseling or psychotherapy but have as one of its goals, to teach the participants about their stress reactions. Survival techniques are also taught (Dr. Mitchell, Dr. Every, 1997). Debriefings are usually conducted more than 72 hours after the incident. The group is generally larger than a defusing, depending on the number of those involved in the incident. The Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) also focuses on the group’s resilience (the ability of a group to “bounce back” from a traumatic exposure), as well as survival techniques for stress. Finally, the CISD emphasizes unit cohesion and unit performance and the ability of the group to recover from a traumatic event and to resume its normal functions.
